  1. What’s the single biggest threat from hurricanes along the coast?

    Storm surge-- the mass swells of water that batter the coastline and surge inland when the hurricane makes landfall, is the largest threat.

  2. If you’re caught in a hurricane, where is the safest place to ride out the storm?

    An interior room of your home with no windows or skylights is generally the safest place to ride out a storm if you are unable to evacuate. Do not get in the car.
