Walk and See

Cut colored paper into shapes - a rectangle, circle, square and triangle and put it into a Ziploc bag.  Go on a walk with your child and ask him to choose a piece of paper.  Ask him to point out an item of that color or shape to you.  Encourage him to describe the item he spotted.

With this activity you have taught your child how to look at things carefully and that objects around us are of different shapes. Roofs are like triangles, car tires are circles, windows are rectangles, and so on.
