What Doesn’t Belong?

From a grocery store circular, cut pictures of similar items, such as beverages (milk, juice, soda) and then one item that is different (apple pie or chicken).  Ask your child what each item is and which one doesn’t belong.

Through this activity you will teach your child the very important skill of sorting, classifying and differentiating. You can also introduce the word “beverage” .

Next time, you can have your child do the cutting to develop fine motor skills and have him look at store circulars with you to find similar items. This can also be done with store ads (shoes, shirts, etc.).
