Letters from Teachers
Teachers find that the Homework Centers provide their students with additional help, creating an environment where students can excel. Here are a few examples of teachers who have watched their students achieve by participating in the Homework Centers:
I am a fifth grade teacher at a nearby elementary school and am writing this letter in regard to the Homework Center at our school.
Six of my students attended the Homework Center this year. It was a great benefit for them. They received the additional support and tutoring needed to complete homework assignments and to improve skills.
It was a very rewarding experience for these students, and the benefit of this support was reflected in their test scores. All students scored one level above their scores from the previous year in either math or reading. I feel this is definite proof that the Homework Center is an asset in helping students with their academic learning.
I would hope that this program would continue in the future.
Respectfully, -P.M.
The Homework Center has been a great resource. The students come to class with homework prepared. They participate more in class discussions, and are eager to answer questions. There is one student who really works to complete his work. He did not have that attitude about school in the beginning.
In the Homework Center, the students receive more individualized help with the areas they are weak in. Students that receive no assistance at home have greatly benefited from the help they receive at the homework center.
The staff in the Homework Center did a great job with my students.
The Homework Center has helped my students to overcome some of their weak skills areas, and in so doing, gain confidence in their abilities to accomplish class work. Their grades and reading have improved greatly.
By spending time in the Homework Center, I’ve seen the strengths of the program and the effect it has on my students. The time on task and the personalized attention to each student really shows. Through different instructors with various styles of teaching, students receive the help tailored uniquely to their individual needs.
In my mind, my only suggestion for improvement at the Homework Center would be to see it expand to two hours of assistance four days a week. It’s such a great resource; my students want more of it.
The Homework Center has helped my students to always have their homework finished, giving them a real sense of accomplishment. It also helps students review for tests, preparing them better than if they had studied on their own at home.
I hope the Homework Center will continue next school year. Many students that would normally not complete their homework or study for tests did so in the Homework Center.
